Longreach Top Four

Longreach-R

Longreach is the Million Dollar Hole-In-One destination, and last stop on the 2021 Outback Queensland Master journey.

If you are serious about discovering our town, then one night is quite simply not enough. We’ve plenty of reasons to linger longer in Longreach; Aussie heritage, adventure, authentic outback shows, live entertainment, river cruises and great dining.  Let’s see if we can tempt you with a few ideas…

1. Feel the pride of Australia

Longreach-design-1-R

As you roll into Longreach in the heart of Outback Queensland, don’t be surprised if you feel just a tinge of ‘Aussie’ pride. The unmistakable red and white livery of a Qantas jumbo jet dominates the skyline from kilometres away. Inside the dedicated Qantas Founders Museum, you’ll uncover many a story linked to the founding of Australia’s national airline that just so happened to grow up in Longreach. Visitors can enjoy guided tours of the Airpark and the new Luminescent Longreach night time light and sound experience.

Across the road, you’ll spot the shimmering curved roof of another Australian icon. The Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame invites you to take a special journey with a Stockman, artist and Hall of Fame Founder, Hugh Sawrey he will be your personalised guide as you wander through the Long Paddock and across the great travelling stock routes of Australia. You will also experience many other stories from the Indigenous peoples, the cattle barons and flying doctors, the rodeo men, men hardened by the sun, who taught a nation to get back up after being knocked down.  Bring your stockman’s experience of life at the Stockman’s Life LIVE show; see the stories and skills that define what it means to be a stockman.

2. Supercharge your Outback experience

CobbandCo-R

Feel the surge of adrenaline as you’re transported full-tilt in a restored Cobb & Co stagecoach along the original Longreach-Windorah mail route. Do you know that it’s the only stagecoach gallop in Australia? Supersize your experience with an exhilarating scenic helicopter flight. Follow the winding curve of the Thomson River or capture the golden glow of a perfect outback sunset from the air with Queensland Helicopters. Snap on a harness and step out on the wing of a Jumbo Jet at Qantas Founders Museum – guaranteed to get the heart pumping!

3. Leap into the Thomson River

Thomson-river-design-3-R

Heighten your sunset experience with a Thomson river cruise and authentic outback entertainment. Choose to glide the waterway in old world style aboard a paddle wheeler before a traditional campfire dinner and old-time sound & light picture show. Or, relax on the top deck of a catamaran as it cruises to Sunset Bend. Top if off with a two-course camp oven dinner and live entertainment on the river stage. But why should you choose? Experience the best of both worlds and do both!

4. Discover whats on the dinner menu

Saunter into downtown Longreach for a smorgasbord of dining options.
Harry’s Restaurant and Bar is named after local legend, Harry Redford. It’s also legendary with the locals for top notch chef-prepared dishes created with fresh, seasonal produce.
The Welcome Home Stone Grill brings traditional campfire method of cooking inside for hearty outback dinners. Cook your choice of meat or fish the way you like it on the hot-stone at your table.
– If great value, pub dining is the order of the day then head to the RSL, Longreach Tavern or the Birdcage Hotel.
– The smorgasbord continues with Woodsy’s Pizza, Happy Valley Chinese, Darcy’s Diner and Little Star Indian Restaurant.
